World Breastfeeding Week

The week of 1 to 7 August is World Breastfeeding Week.

The benefits of breastfeeding are widely recognised. It is an ideal source of nutrition to support a newborn’s growth and development, and plays a particularly important role for the most vulnerable babies, especially premature babies.

But every journey is unique.

Whilst many mothers wish to breastfeed, this can sometimes be difficult to achieve. A premature birth, difficulties with lactation or other medical or personal reasons can make it difficult – either temporarily or in the long term – to establish breastfeeding.

Behind every journey are parents who give their all, and healthcare professionals who support them with kindness and expertise.

Because supporting breastfeeding also means supporting all families, whatever difficulties they may face.
